1. Service Description
N5ZY SMS Alerts (“Service”) is a free notification service operated by Marcus, N5ZY (“Operator”). The Service sends SMS text messages to subscribers containing the Operator’s current Maidenhead grid square location during amateur radio VHF contests. This service is intended for licensed amateur radio operators who wish to contact N5ZY during contest operations.
2. Eligibility
By subscribing to this Service, you represent that:
- You are at least 18 years of age, or have parental consent
- You are the owner or authorized user of the mobile phone number provided
- You understand this service is related to amateur radio operations
3. Message Frequency and Content
Message frequency varies based on contest activity. During a typical VHF contest weekend, you may receive between 1 and 20 messages per contest day. Messages are only sent during active contest periods, typically 3-8 weekends per year. Messages will contain:
- The Operator’s current Maidenhead grid square (e.g., “N5ZY/R now in EM15”)
- Occasional operational information (e.g., frequencies, modes)
4. Consent and Opt-Out
By providing your phone number and checking the consent box on our signup form, you expressly consent to receive automated SMS messages from N5ZY. You may revoke consent and unsubscribe at any time by:
- Replying STOP to any message

After opting out, you will receive a confirmation message and no further messages will be sent unless you re-subscribe.
5. Costs
The Service is provided free of charge. However, standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply. The Operator is not responsible for any charges incurred from your carrier.
6. Privacy
Your phone number and any information provided will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties.
7. Service Availability
The Service is provided “as is” without warranty. The Operator reserves the right to:
- Modify or discontinue the Service at any time
- Remove subscribers who abuse the Service
- Limit message frequency or content
Message delivery depends on mobile carrier networks and is not guaranteed.
8. Limitation of Liability
The Operator shall not be liable for any damages arising from the use or inability to use this Service, including but not limited to missed contest contacts, carrier charges, or service interruptions.
9. Changes to Terms
These Terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
