Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep
The first time I put the car in reverse I realized I needed to ‘hack my car’. Fortunately It wasn’t hard – I spent more time researching where the speaker was and how to disable it than actually doing it. There was no way I could drive this car for 15 years if it was going to wake the neighbors every day when I put it in reverse. And the whole harp thing at slow speed was a bit silly – pedestrians walk around with ear buds – they are not going to hear the harp.
I found in various conversational sites that the harp sound that plays at low speeds and the backup alarm both play from a speaker behind the front bumper and all I had to do was unplug it. Some people really got smart and inserted a relay wired to a switch in the cabin so they could disable/enable it if needed. I simply unplugged it. After doing so I now feel like the car is a keeper!
The instructions for removing the front bumper cover are here: https://www.kniro.net/front_bumper_cover_repair_procedures-1473.html
Here is my photo once I managed to loosen it up enough to get an arm in and unplug the speaker.
I unplugged it and put it all back together. The car does not seem to check the status of the speaker as i’ve driven several thousand miles since without any warnings.
